What a wonderful introduction to Portugal. It was my first time visiting Lisbon and I'm really glad I chose to stay outside of the typical touristy area (Alfama is visited a lot by tourists but there are no hotels in the area). Joao and Carla were very responsive before/during/after my stay and their apartment is clean, modern and perfect for 1 or 2 people. My only tip for future guests is to make sure you pack as light as possible. Cars/taxis have a hard time navigating in this neighborhood because of the narrow roads so you may have to carry your luggage up/down the famous hills, but at least you get a good workout. - Denise, USA
